With backgrounds from the likes of Duracell, Reckitt, Timex and K-Mart, it was CLT's management's own corporate experience of the frustrations and fear of disposing of excess inventories that spawned the creation of CLT's business today.
In today's fiscally strained retail market where does a manufacturer "safely" dispose of excess inventories?
- Larger "discount" retailers don't buy large volumes anymore.
- It is not affordable and logistically not possible to piecemeal small quantities of excess stock to regional retailers around the country.
- Discounting to regular channels is a costly sales force distraction and "ties up" major customer's open to buy.
- For a national brand, selling less than pristine goods is unadvisable yet the manufacturing department is only set up to produce, not re-work products.
- Most retailers are not prepared to deal with the nightmares associated with closeouts such as breaking down displays and re-packaging, dealing with expired goods, coupons that are dated, mixed SKU's on a pallet, etc.
- Wholesalers, barter houses, supposed exporters etc., never consistently deliver on their "discreet disposal" promise.
The Solution
CLT structured its company to provide an effective and discreet solution to this problem.
The logistics of handling closeouts is our niche and the way we discreetly get the manufacturer's inventory into consumer hands quickly without the risk of major customer embarrassments.
- CLT has set up an infrastructure that re-works and re-packages closeout "messes" into merchandise a brand manufacturer would be proud to offer to any market.
- CLT has spent years assembling an international network of retailers that is large enough to handle our manufacturer needs yet obscure enough not to compete with their regular trade channels.
- For them, we source unwanted inventory, break it down, clean it up, re-package and mix cases, pick and pack, price sticker, label for country compliance and ultimately consolidate the goods, allowing retailers to take small quantities of up to 60 brands on a truck/container.
If the price and product fit our retail client needs, CLT will pay cash upfront for unwanted brand inventories and disperse them across a large number of retailers only in geographic areas approved by the manufacturer. |
